Print pages 1-9 to use this planning and drafting booklet to guide your students to write their own adapted version of the original Cinderella by the Grimm Brothers. The original title in German is "Aschenputtel". Please note that this is not the Disney version. The original fairy tales were often dark, for they were intended to warn the listener of the dangers of the often harsh world that people lived in during the 1800's. However, the original fairy tales are often highly engaging to students!
The planning section allows students to plan new characters, magical elements, and a new setting.
The drafting section is split into 10 sections for each major events. The original story is paraphrased next to blank lines for the students to write their own story.
The students can edit in this booklet with directions from the teacher.
The last page of the booklet has a revision activity for word choice. Students will find the words given and will replace them with better synonyms.
Students can the publish the story on teacher provided paper.
This activity has been used in a 2nd and 3rd grade classroom with a lot of success.
