This is a complete nonfiction writing unit in an easy to use scaffolded format. Scaffolding information supports all learners - general education, SPED, and ELL. It's the sequencing of content, materials, and tasks. All terms are defined. Simply move through the materials, bit-by-bit, as time allows. Best of all, once students are directed through the resource packet, they work mostly independently.

Begin by reading a chapter from 26 FAIRMOUNT AVENUE - an autobiography written by Tomie DePaola - or any engaging autobiography.

The student resource packet includes:

An anchor chart.

An optional cover for student resources.

Autobiography clearly defined.

A lengthy list of possible subtopics (chapters).

Drafting subtopics, an introduction, five chapters, and a conclusion.

Drafting WOW chapter titles.

A draft glossary.

A text features reference chart.

Detailed revision and editing directions.

The final autobiography packet includes:

A title page with directions.

A table of contents page.

An introduction with illustration.

Five chapters with illustration.

A conclusion with illustration.

A final draft glossary.

Extra pages for lengthening chapters.

A post study word search for review and early finishers.

Learning targets are included to guide young writers. This unit is aligned to CCSS, easily allows for differentiation, and it's loads of fun.
