This is a sneak peak in to the writing process of a published book, beginning with the rough draft. It is a tool for using a children's book to illustrate the writing process and encourage students to do multiple drafts of their writing. These pages show the writing process that led to Rudy’s New Human. For each of the book’s first five pages, you’ll see the author and illustrator communication on the storyline, the first draft of the text, and picture ideas, with notes highlighted in yellow. Below that is the rough drawing of each scene. At the bottom of each page you can see the final page proofs from the publisher, which are pretty close to what ended up in the book. Even in a 30-page children’s book, there is a lot of editing work to do between the first ideas and the final draft!
