This activity is designed with the focus on writing and following detailed directions for a simple task. Being able to write and follow directions is crucial both in the classroom and life. By focusing on a seemingly simple act such as tying a shoe, the goal is for students to slow down and understand basic steps and write them down. First, second, then, next etc. In the cookie portion, students reiterate the lesson of writing and following directions, but also add in learning how many people can accomplish the same task but in different ways.
This is a great classroom introduction and beginning of the year activity. It's especially useful in the science and cooking classrooms as the focus is on following written directions. It is also a fantastic get-to-know-you activity to ease into the school year across subject areas.
Included in the pack are: teacher introduction and directions (with specific common core standards) and printable worksheets for students.
