PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students often have trouble writing expressions and equations that include the word "than" (ex: seven less "than" a number is two).

I always teach my students "That when it says 'than', it (the operation) comes at the end (of the algebraic expression)."
Ex: seven less "than" a number is two translate to n - 7 = 2 and NOT 7 - n = 2.

This worksheet includes 14 verbal phrases that include the word "than" that translate into one and two-step algebraic equations. The problems start off easy and get increasingly more difficult.

This can be used as a teaching tool to model how to set up and solve algebraic equations, as team work, or independent practice.
