Product Description
Do your students need some more practice with reading story problems and coming up with equations to match the situation? This download includes 10 real-life word problems that can be solved by writing an equation using one of the 4 basic operations (multiplication, division, subtraction, or addition). The directions instruct students to write an equation using the given variable, and then solve it to get their answer.

These problems perfectly align with the 4th grade standard 4.OA.A.2:"Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison."They also align with the fifth grade standard 5.OA.A.2: "Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. For example, express the calculation "add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2" as 2 × (8 + 7)."

For your convenience, I have provided three formats:
☆ Worksheets with room to work out the problem – 2 included: A (1-5) and B (1-5)
☆ Worksheet – all 10 on one sheet
☆ Task Cards – 10 total (2 pages)
