This NO PREP middle-school, common core aligned math center contains 4 centers to help students make sense of writing and solving equations. The focus of these stations is solving algebraic equations, writing an algebraic equation from a word problem, writing a story problem to represent an algebraic equation an error analysis in solving equations which helps students use their higher-order thinking skills. This is perfect for math 7 or could be used as an extension for math 6 or review for math 8.
Each center contains questions that increase in difficulty, this is for the purpose of differentiation in your classroom. Options to implement include a set time limit for each station, about 15 minutes would be good for these stations. Another option would be to assign different point values to the problems, and have students choose which problems they will complete. Therefore they will have to do more of the “easier” problems or less of the “harder” problems. Recording sheet for students and solutions are also included.
These math centers are aligned with common core 7.EE.B.3, 7.EE.B.4, 7.EE.B.4a.
These could also be assigned for homework, or used as group work or as an assessment.
