Set of 4 rubrics that assess growing writing skills throughout the year. Each rubric then has an accompanying student checklist for self-assessment. Arranged by content, organization, and conventions.
Rubric/checklist #1 looks for the following under content: developing a main idea, supporting the main idea with details. Under conventions: legible handwriting, and capitalization/punctuation. (Organization is not yet built, as getting students to write is initial focus)
Rubric/checklist #2 includes everything from first rubric, and adds purpose and audience under content.
Rubric/checklist #3 includes everything from second rubric, and adds spelling and errors under conventions, and starts organization with beginning, middle, ending.
Rubric/checklist #4 includes everything from third rubric and adds under content: focus on topic and evidence of voice; under organization: sentence variety and fluency; under conventions: subject/verb agreement.
