Description

Writing to Inform and Explain (Vol. 3): “On the Other Hand…” (A Mini-Writer’s Workshop for Grades 6-8) is part of a series of mini-workshops designed to engage even the most reluctant of young writers!

This quick-paced, 2-week, compare and contrast writer’s workshop is broken down into small, manageable steps which will keep your students interested and excited. This unit comes with a link to an interactive Google Slide "Notebook" that guides students through the lessons and activities, making this perfect for digital/distance learning.

Each mini-workshop in this series contains:

★ (1) mentor piece for students to analyze and use as a model while writing (please note: the mentor piece is a four paragraph compare and contrast essay written in the BLOCK METHOD of organization)

★ (2) prewriting organizers

★ (3) three writer’s craft mini-lessons that support the skills necessary for writing strong narratives, as well as the common core State Standards (CCSS).

★ (6) Beautiful anchor posters (both in color and BW for easy printing!)

I’m Organizin’ It!

Commas in a Series

The Language of Compare and Contrast

Read-Around-Groups Directions*

Revising and Editing Checklist*

★ (1) rubric for scoring students’ writing

(*these posters/lesson plans will be found in each product in my narrative and inform/explain writing series)

I’ve also included Common Core alignment for grades 6-8 (though these lessons could easily be adapted for 4-5th grade, as well as 9-12th grades!) and detailed, step-by-step lesson plans.

If teaching students to compare and contrast is part of your curriculum, you will not be disappointed with this mini-writer’s workshop!

Thanks for shopping! Enjoy!
