Product Description
"I love these for my writing area of Daily 5! They are so easy to use and I can change them out regularly!" --climmis

"What great ideas for preparing for writing tests! My students will enjoy these. Thanks!" --ski2008

This resource is a great way to help students meet the Common core standards for writing, practice prompt writing for state assessments, and build a community of writers. Community journals are spiral notebooks with different prompts where each student writes in a different notebook each week. Students learn how to write to prompts, follow writing expectations and checklists, and provide feedback to each other. Once you establish this routine in your class, you will find that students are working and learning together reducing the amount of writing feedback you need to provide to students. It's a win-win!! Teachers can also use this pack as homework, literacy centers and as test prep for those state assessments. This pack includes:

--Directions to creating community journals
--Directions to help you establish these routines in your classroom
--Sample mini lessons to make this work in your classroom
-- Expectations for students
--Class checklist
--Thirty prompts including:
Five information/explanatory writing prompts
Five argument/ opinion writing prompts
Five narrative/ description writing prompts
Five narrative/ creative writing prompts
Five narrative/ story starter prompts
Five choice prompts to help build vocabulary
