After reading, Katie Wood Ray's Wonderous Words, I was inspired to teach my students writer's craft. But where to start? I decided to make a cheat sheet so that I can make teaching craft easier to wrap my head around. Using the recommended books and having the synopsis of the different types of craft has really helped implement craft during reader's and writer's workshop. My students have learned how to read with a writerly eye and have been able to find many of these crafts on their own. Once you get to know a few texts very well and a few very popular crafts you and your students will be able to find craft in just about any book. This cheat sheet gives you the perfect starting point with a complete list of all of the crafts Ray explains in her book.
