Description

Teaching imagery is a great way to get students thinking about their own writing. This lesson includes a slideshow that gives students an introduction to writing using vivid imagery that works well as a one-day lesson and in-class assignment. The slideshow contains 18 high quality images that students must use as inspiration for writing descriptions filled with imagery. It works well as an individual assignment, pair work, or a whole class activity.

As a follow-up to the in-class activity, there is a fully developed project in which students must create their own imagery-packed writing piece and present it to the class. The project handout includes the project's expectations, a detailed sample, and a grading rubric. There are also teaching notes included with a few tips on how to execute the project smoothly.
