Students often struggle with written response to text in the primary grades. There are so many steps involved! I created these posters to help students respond to texts appropriately. They remind students to read the question carefully, determine what the question is asking, and use text and picture evidence to write their response. I have also included a self-assessment tool students can use before they say "I'm done!"
These posters come in two formats: landscape, legal sized posters that work well for bulletin boards and focus walls, and landscape, letter sized posters that are good for small group areas or stations.
My students complete the MCLASS reading assessments in first grade. So often, the struggle to adequately respond in writing inhibits the progress of even fluent, confident readers. Explicit instruction in written responses and anchors/reminders have helped my students tremendously (although we're still working every day!). I hope this resource helps you and your students prepare for written response to text, whatever form it takes in your state or district.
