I originally developed this for my "Intro To Dance" class, but as more and more of us are asked to have our students do more and more WRITING in ALL of our classes, I realized it was also a great way to get students writing in ALL other disciplines.
After watching a dance performance (by fellow students, in a MOVIE, by a company like Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, in a music video, as part of a history lesson, as part of a "Black History Month" or other cultural presentation, or any other live dance performance) this worksheet guides students through defining the technical elements they observed (like costuming, lighting, scenery/props, etc) and then on the other side helps them to define their emotional responses to the work and identify stories and themes within.
The worksheet becomes an easy "jumping off point" for a secondary writing assignment turning the information they just organized into a creating writing assignment, a formal/informal "review" of the work, or even just an emotional response paragraph.
Teacher friends in other subjects have used it in their classes after showing historical/ceremonial/period dances, or just as a fun way to get students WRITING about dance videos or movies they've shown in class.
