End of unit project/ assessment task which corresponds to the Changing Nations topic for the year 8 Australian Geography Curriculum. Students need to apply what they have covered in class into a research task. The research task requires students to conduct a case study on an Asia Pacific region Mega-city. Note: this was used within a school that has a one-to-one device program (iPads). But the task can still be completed, provided that students have access to the internet.
How it works:
Students need to conduct a case study on a Mega-city of their choice from the Asia Pacific region. They can present their case study anyway they like, however they have specific guided tasks to complete and questions to respond to. The aim of the tasks to build on their knowledge learnt during the unit of work, as well as improve their inquiry skills.
Time (what I did):
30 min to launch task in class and answer questions
2 weeks for students to complete project as homework task.
Key skill focuses:
-Locating, Recording and Interpreting Data
- Forming conclusions and making predictions based on knowledge and information gathered
Correlated to AusVELS as best as it can be until full Australian curriculum is confirmed and released for geography. It is a word document, so can be altered once everything is confirmed. As this is a content focused task, the rubric only represents high 7.5 Ausvels as the top end. This is because this task is only one area of study to be completed for the year 8 curriculum. The rubric is a word document and can be altered and adapted.
