This versatile resource is good for brightening someone's day on many occasions; May Day, Mother's Day, end of the year thank you, etc. You can also just have the students make the flowers and write poems about spring for your class bulletin board.
Your students will have lots of fun with this STEM challenge. First, they will read about six types of flowers. They will learn characteristics of each flower, along with the meaning and what they symbolize. This is the perfect opportunity to talk about the job of the flower as well as various character traits. After reading students will choose one flower to make given a set of guidelines. One of these guidelines is that the stem of the flower must be able to hold a letter or poem. Writing paper, directions for writing a diamante poem, and paper for the final copy of student's poetry are included.
