I encourage my 5th graders to keep a year-long list of the books they're reading independently. I keep one for myself on the board and update it with the personal and professional books I'm reading, too. This creates a class culture of life-long reading for pleasure. At the end of each quarter, each student is given an amount of raffle tickets that corresponds with the number of books they finished. Then a few prizes are raffled off, and we keep reading until June!
