Do you have a Magnet Center in your classroom? These activities have been created to use with a large oil drip pan, or similiar sized surface creating a larger magnet center in your classroom.

August: Play Clay

Play Clay Dough Counts:

Use magnetic tape to put up the number trays across the top of your magnet board.

Place magnets on the back of each tray with dough and place them in a container nearby.

Students count the dough on the trays and sort them under the correct number.

Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Play Clay Color Sorting:

Use magnetic tape to put up the color containers across the bottom of your magnet board.

Place magnets on the back of each clay ball and place in a container nearby.

Students look at the color of each clay ball and place them above the correct color container.

Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Play Clay Letter Sorting:

Use magnetic tape to put the capital and lowercase headers on your magnet board.

Place magnets on the back of each letter and place them in a container nearby.

Students sort the letters by capital and lowercase.

Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Play Clay Shape Creating:

Place magnetic tape on the back of the shape cards and place on your magnet board.

Place magnetic tape on the back of each “clay piece” and place in a container near by.

Students use the clay shapes provided to create the shapes on the cards by placing them on top of the black and white lines. *I’d recommend putting a heavier magnet tape on the back of these pieces.*

September: Back to School Magnet Center

Color Sorting Apples:

-Use magnetic tape to put up the color words on your magnet board

-Place magnets on the back of each apple card and place in a container nearby.

-Students look at the color of each apple and place them under the correct color word.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Tens Frame Match Up (0-10):

-Use magnetic tape to put up the tens frame school buses on your magnetic board.

-Place magnets on the back of each number card and place in a container nearby. (or you could vice versa the bus and number cards if you’d prefer)

-Students look at the number on the card and place it next to the school bus with the correct tens frame.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Alphabet Books:

-Cut the books with letters in half.

-Use magnetic tape to put the capital letter half of the book on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each lowercase half of the book and place in a container nearby.

-Students match the letters to put the book together.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Apple Shape Sorting Tree:

-Place magnetic tape on the back of each tree and place on your magnet board.

- Place magnetic tape on the back of each apple shape and place in a container nearby. **I recommend using a stronger magnet than what you put on the back of the tree if you have used the magnetic tape**

- Students sort the apples onto the correct tree by their shape.

- Use the B & W version and color in yourself to save on color ink!

October: Halloween Magnet Center

Color Sorting Ghosts:

-Use magnetic tape to put the boo words across the top of your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each colored ghosts and place them in a container nearby.

-Students sort out the ghosts by color and place them under the matching boo word.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Pumpkin Shape Sorting (6 shapes):

-Use magnetic tape to put up the shape words up on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each pumpkin shape and place in a container nearby.

-Students look at the shape of each pumpkin and sort them under the correct shape word.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Eyeball Stew Counting (1-10):

-Use magnets on the back of each number cauldron.

-Place magnets on the back of each small cauldron with eyeballs and place in a container nearby.

-Students count the eyeballs in each stew and place them on the larger cauldron with the correct number.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Tombstone Letter Sorting (8 capital letters):

-Place magnetic tape on the back of each letter tombstone and place them on your magnet board.

-Place magnetic tape on the back of each ghost letter and place in a container nearby.

-Students look at the letters on the ghosts and sort them under the correct tombstone with the matching capital letter.

-Use the B & W version and color in yourself to save on color ink!

November: Thanksgiving/Fall Magnet Center

Color Sorting Leaves:

- Use magnetic tape to put the color words across the top of your magnet board

-Place magnets on the back of each colored leaf and place them in a container nearby.

-Students sort out the leaves by color and place them under the matching color word.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Turkey Feather Letter Sorting (8 different letters):

-Use magnetic tape to put the turkey bodies on your magnet board. I suggest using 4 letters at a time.

-Place magnets on the back of each feather and place in a container nearby.

-Students look at the letter on each feather and match it to the correct turkey on the board.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Fall Number/Counting Sort (1-10):

-Use magnets on the back of each number and place on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each item counting card and place in a container nearby.

-Students count items on each card and place it under the correct number.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Acorn Shape Sorting:

- Decide to cut out the shapes with or without the middle.

- Place magnets on the back of each shape and place on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each acorn shape and place in a container nearby.

-Students sort out the acorns by shape and place inside of the correct shape.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

December: Christmas Magnet Center

Alphabet Sorting

Place the presents along the bottom of your magnet center.

Use capital, lowercase, or both ornaments to sort out above the presents.

Ornament Number Matching

Use magnetic tape to place the Christmas trees on your magnet center.

Place a heavier magnet on the back of the ornaments.

Match them on top of the same number on the Christmas tree.

Christmas Lights Color Sorting

Place the color words out on your magnet center.

Put the color lights in a container near by.

Students sort the color lights by placing them under the correct color words.

Stocking Shape Sorting

Place the stockings with shapes on your magnet center.

Put the ornaments in a container near by.

Students sort the ornaments by the shape on them and place them under the stockings.

**THIS ONE DOES NOT INCLUDE B&W VERSION**

January: Winter Magnet Center

Mitten Color Sorting:

Use magnetic tape to put up the color words on your magnet board

Place magnets on the back of each mitten and store in a container near by for sorting.

Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink. Print as many pages of the B&W mittens as you need and color them in.

Snowball Number Sorting:

Use magnetic tape to put the number words across the top of your magnet board. Decide which set you would like to use, plain number word or number word with number.

Place magnets on the back of the number snowballs. 2 for each number.

Snowballs are included in B&W, number word headers are NOT available in B&W.

Marshmallow Hot Chocolate Shapes:

Use magnetic tape to put the hot chocolate mugs along your magnet board.

Sort the marshmallow shapes by placing them “in” the correctly labeled shape mug.

B&W version available for both the mugs and the marshmallows are already white.

Capital & Lowercase Letting Pairing:

Use magnetic tape to but the capital letter hats on your magnet board.

Place magnets on the back of the mittens. Sort them out by pairing them to the correct capital letter.

Use the B&W version to save on color ink, simply color them in yourself matching the lowercase and capital in the same color.

February: Valentine's Magnet Center

Patterned Heart Sorting:

- Use magnetic tape to put up the color pattern words on your magnet board

- Place magnets on the back of each heart and store in a container near by for sorting.

- Use the B and W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Pairing:

-Use magnetic tape to put up the shape words on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each strawberry shape and store in a container nearby for sorting.

-Place each matching pair of strawberries under the correct shape word.

-Use the B and W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Tens Frame Counting:

-Use magnetic tape to put the tens frames up on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each numbered heart.

-Students place the numbers under the correct tens frames.

-Use the B and W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Lowercase Letter Matching:

-Use magnetic tape to put the capital letter mailing card up on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of the lowercase letter love bugs.

-Match the lowercase letter on the love bugs to the capital letter on the mailing card.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink

March: St. Patrick's Magnet Center

Rainbow Coin Sorting:

- Use magnetic tape to put up the color words on your magnet board

- Place magnets on the back of each colored coin and place in a container nearby.

- Student sort the coins by their color by placing them under the correct color word.

- Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Lowercase to Lowercase Matching:

- Use magnetic tape to put up the leprechaun hats on your magnet board.

- Place magnets on the back of each pot of gold and place in a container nearby.

- Students match the pot of gold to the same lowercase letter on the hat.

- Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Shape Sorting Coins:

- Use magnetic tape to put the shape headers on your magnet board.

- Place magnets on the back of each shape coin and place in a container nearby.

- Students sort the coins by their shape and place them under the correct shape word.

- Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Pot of Gold Counting (up to 20):

- Place magnet tape on the back of each pot of gold with a number and place at the bottom of your magnet board.

- Place magnetic tape on the back of each gold coin and place in a container nearby.

- Students count out the correct number of coins above each pot of gold and place on the magnet tray.

- Use the B & W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

April: Easter Magnet Center

Pastel Egg Color Sorting

Use magnetic tape to put up the color words on your magnet board

Place magnets on the back of each colored egg and place in a container nearby.

Student sort the eggs by their color by placing them under the correct color word.

Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Jelly Bean Counting:

Use magnetic tape to put up the numbered baskets on your magnet board.

Place magnets on the back of each jelly bean and place in a container nearby.

Students look at the number on the basket and place that many jelly beans above the basket.

Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Marshmallow Bunny Shape Packs:

Use magnetic tape to put the bunny packs with the shapes on your magnet board.

Place magnets on the back of each bunny with a shape on it.

Students match the bunnies to the correct packs by placing them on top of the matching bunny.

May: Spring Magnet Center

Flower Pot Petal Counting:

Use magnetic tape to put up the numbered flower pots on your magnet board

Place magnets on the back of each flower and place in a container nearby.

Student count the petals on each flower and place it above the correct flower pot.

Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Color Sorting Flowers:

Use magnetic tape to put up the color words on your magnet board

Place magnets on the back of each flower card and place in a container nearby.

Students look at the color of each flower and place them under the correct color word.

Rain Cloud Alphabet Matching (Lower to Upper):

Use magnetic tape to put the rain clouds with capitals on your magnet board.

Place magnets on the back of each raindrop with a lowercase letter on it and place in a container nearby.

Students match the rain drops to the capital letter on the cloud.

Lady Bug Shape Sorting:

Place magnetic tape on the back of each leaf and place on your magnet board.

Place magnetic tape on the back of each lady bug shape and place in a container nearby. **I recommend using a stronger magnet than what you put on the back of the leaf if you have used the magnetic tape**

Students sort the ladybugs onto the correct leaf by their shape

June: Summer Magnet Center

Lemonade Order Counting:

-Use magnetic tape to put up the numbers or number words on your magnet board.

-Place magnets on the back of each lemonade glass.

-Print out the number of spinners you want at the center.

-Students spin the spinner to get a number. (with paper clip and a pencil to make the spinner.

-Next, they find a glass with that number of ice cubes and place it on the board under the right number.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Color Sorting Watermelon:

-Use magnetic tape to put up the color words on your magnet board (6 different colors included)

-Place magnets on the back of each watermelon slice and place in a container nearby.

-Students look at the color of each watermelon slice and place them under the correct color word.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Letter Sorting Suns:

-Use magnetic tape to put the suns with letters on your magnet board (5 suns, 5 letters)

-Place magnets on the back of each of the circles with letters in them and place in a container nearby.

-Students sort the letters to the correct sun.

-Use the B&W version and color in yourself to save on color ink.

Make a Smores Direction Following:

-Place magnetic tape on the back of the direction strip. Use as many as you’d like for your center.

-Place magnetic tape on the back of each smores making piece, again, printing as many pieces as you’d like for your center, and place in a container nearby

-Students follow directions to make their smores.
