This document can be used as assessments or practice. It is meant for a first grade class but can be used for above grade level kindergarten students or below grade level second graders.
This is a year-long packet with
• 3 read and bubbles/read and draws
• 2 picture stories
• 4 short stories with teacher guidance
• 21 short to longer stories with student independence
It is set up with beginning reading comprehension sentences where the students will use a picture for comprehension. The students will look at the picture, read each sentence, and then fill in the bubble that best tells about the picture. Also the students are to read words or sentences and draw a picture to represent them.
Then it moves into answering simple questions about a picture. After a lesson on how to answer who, what, where, and when questions, these will be a great way to assess them. I created two documents for each story to better fit your class and/or students. There are differentiated answer options: one with free-response and the other is a bubble option.
Next are simple stories. At first the teacher will need to read the story and questions for the first couple of stories. Then the teacher will only read the story introduction and questions. Finally the teacher will only read the story introduction and the students will read the story and questions by themselves. Again there are 2 documents for each story in order to allow differentiated answer options.
The stories are meant to get more challenging throughout the year. In the beginning, the stories use only short vowel patterns and early sight words. Later it moves onto long vowel patterns in the stories with more challenging vocabulary. The introductions are meant to help with some unknown words
