This freebie offers blank calendars and various lined stationary for your students to create a year long journal of school memories. At the beginning of each month my students make and illustrate a calendar corresponding to the current month (i.e. October might be an illustration of a pumpkin patch). At the end of the month we sit together and brainstorm important or exciting events that have happened at school that month. This could include field trips, assemblies, experiments, new students, visitors, new units, etc. Students then select one of the topics and write a narrative about that event. I collect both the calendars and writing and at the end of the year take each students' calendar and place in front of that month's writing. I then bind them into memory books. They are incredibly powerful, not only because they capture important events from the year, but also because they are a beautiful representation of the growth each student has made as a writer. It's a wonderful keepsake for parents and provides a great reflection opportunity for teachers and students. Hope you enjoy!
