What educators are saying

I love using visuals as writing prompts. They invite students to write in an open ended way. I love the editable templates as I teach late French immersion.
They love doing caption writing and beg for it each week. They like to compete to see who can write the most clever or funniest caption. I love this simple opportunity for my kids to be creative.

Description

Do your students hate writing? With this great bundle, they will love it! Engage them in the writing process with this quick, easy, painless activity.

This bundle includes four different picture writing prompt resources. These writing prompts are a great way to engage upper elementary or middle school students in writing with a quick, easy activity.

With no prep required, they're a great last minute resource for your writing centers. Download and go! No printing needed! They are perfect for your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade students.

EDITABLE options are also included. You get an editable PowerPoint file so you can write your own prompts. This allows you to re-use the images multiple times with a different writing purpose in mind! (Keep in mind that PowerPoint files can be uploaded into Google Drive, so you can distribute these through Google Classroom with a few extra steps.)

These files are meant to be downloaded and then projected on an overhead for the class. They are available in widescreen format, so please make sure that is appropriate for the device you are using before purchase.

WHAT YOU GET:

  • 46 Fall Picture Writing Prompts
  • 72 Winter Picture Writing Prompts
  • 56 Spring Picture Writing Prompts
  • 36 Summer Picture Writing Prompts
  • Six writing response cards for students (in case you want a printable option)
  • EDITABLE options for all prompts in PowerPoint (these can be uploaded into Google Drive or Microsoft Teams, but I have NOT uploaded them for you)

Please know this resource was made for the American teacher, based on American holidays and events. While it could be used by teachers in other countries, you may not find all the holidays and images applicable. But you will enjoy my WRITING PROMPTS BUNDLE FOR ANY TIME OF YEAR. Check it out now!

HOW CAN THESE WRITING PROMPTS BE USED?

DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

These picture writing prompts are meant to be a fun way to engage students in the writing process. You get 210 different picture writing prompts to choose from - based on seasonal events, major holidays, some lesser known holidays, and more. You could do a different warm up each day if your school runs on a traditional 180 day schedule! With the editable options, you can re-write the prompts to use each image more than one time.

These work great for writing centers, on days where your writing time is cut short (late starts and early releases, anyone?), when students have lost their focus, or when you want to take a break from a bigger writing project.

In my classroom I used our Interactive Writing Notebooks for students to record their responses. But I have also included six printable options for your needs.

There are NOT any rubrics included in this download. I would sometimes grade on completion, sometimes focus on a specific skill or goal (vocabulary or punctuation), and othertimes skip the grading. (Because I was laughing too hard at the student responses! Those days I called it a community building.)

Give these a try with your second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth grade classroom or homeschool students. You're sure to bring some fun into the day!

These also work great for special education teachers who want to give their students writing prompts without overwhelming them. Project one image, avoid overwhelm, and help your students find success in the writing process!
