This file contains reading log calendars for August, 2016 through May, 2017, an entire year of response prompts! The daily prompts for these reading logs have been revised and aligned with the CC and feature many of the 50 critical words that students must know for the CC standards. Reading logs are a great way to review literature terms and guide students in purposeful self-selected nightly reading. Each entry focuses on important story elements, such as character traits, conflict, setting, predictions, theme, mood, author's purpose and more. It integrates these essential terms with creative activities, including Venn diagrams, time lines, illustrations, T-charts, analogies and other formats.
I have also included 3 pages to choose from that can be copied on the reverse of each reading log. These pages feature alternative questions for nonfiction reading, lists of character traits, tone and mood descriptors, conflict review, point of view reminders, common literary themes and common literary techniques. These pages assist students in correctly completing the reading log entries.
I update the file with the correct dates each year, so you only purchase once and get revised calendars each year! This has made a huge difference with my struggling readers, as it provides them with consistent exposure to the vocabulary and practice applying the skills. I have also left this file as a Word file, so it is fully editable!
I've added a rubric at the end of the file that I found helpful in providing feedback to students and simplifying the grading process this year. Enjoy!
