Simple STEAM Project for Lunar New Year and the Year of the Rabbit! Learn how to make an Origami Bunny Rabbit – a fun introduction to Origami for children and beginners.
This Paper Rabbit is perfect as part of any Year of the Rabbit and Lunar New Year celebrations (it can also be used for spring or Easter crafting too). The origami rabbit can be a "stand alone" project, or can be included in seasonal collages, made into simple greeting cards, as well as simple POP-UP Card too. So there are plenty of extension ideas. As shown in the thumbnails, this craft (and instructions) are suitable for spring and Easter too.
The aim is to introducing basic origami skills. Encouraging the development of spatial awareness and fine motor skills, whilst encouraging reading and following instructions.
The Year of the Rabbit has some auspicious colors and numbers, most notably – red, pink, purple and blue and the numbers 3, 4 and 6. Talk about these lucky colors and numbers when making this origami with the students. Avoid dark brown, dark yellows and whites!
A great origami project all year round that can be adapted for other seasons and occasions.
