This activity was done at the end of a mini unit on the wolves of Yellowstone National Park (YNP). Each class was a 90 minute block period. Previously, students completed a predator/prey lab simulation and made graphs of what happened to their populations over the rounds.
Day 1: Students did a jigsaw reading about YNP and wolf behavior and biology.
Day 2: We talked about the wolf reintroduction and did a role play to see if students would have agreed to vote for the wolves.
Day 3: We watched a video about the wolves of YNP (In the Valley of Wolves: The Druid Wolf Pack) and took notes on wolf behaviors we'd talked about the class before.
Day 4: We talked briefly about the video and shared out about the observations. Students then looked at the YNP Wolf Pack Maps and completed this activity. The maps are available annually in the report issued by National Parks Service.
