Looking for a fun, engaging way for your students to practice opinion writing? Look no further! This product will allow your students to write a 3 or 5 paragraph review of their favorite (or least favorite) restaurant!
I designed this activity to correlate with the common core (grades 2-5) Opinion and Persuasive writing standards. I wanted to create a real-world platform for students to create an opinion writing piece. Prior to engaging in this activity I like to have students read several actual “Yelp” reviews (after screening them myself, of course!) and evaluate their worth and validity. In my experience this has helped create student buy-in and has made for wonderful student engagement.
Students can choose to write about a restaurant they have previously eaten at, the school cafeteria, or a new restaurant their parents choose to take them to. Next, have students write a restaurant review by forming an opinion and supporting it with detail sentences.
You can choose to have your students write a 3 or 5 paragraph essay, depending on their ability level. I have included a corresponding rubric for each option, that you can use to score students on common core writing and ELA standards. I have also included 3 and 5 paragraph rough draft templates and a final copy template.
