Incorporate a brain break into your ELA block, story time, or any time your students need a wiggle break. Rooster's Off to See the World is an Eric Carle classic. Take a yoga trip with Rooster as he meets several other animals along the way. When they realize they are not very prepared for their trip around the world, they all start to leave Rooster but Rooster realizes too, that home is a good place to be. Of course, our trip ends with Savasana, or resting corpse pose and even a little math challenge.
Pictures can be easily displayed on an interactive white board or document camera. The Boardmaker pictures are easily accessible and recognizable by children across grade levels and abilities.
This activity can be done following a read aloud of this book or, if your students/children are familiar with this story, do it as a quick brain break and sequence review while teaching them to calm their body and mind as well increasing their comprehension of the story.
