This product includes a humorous play about Presidents Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Jackson, and Van Buren. Yogi Berra falls asleep and in his dream, walks in on a conversation with these Presidents. As Yogi listens, he provides his own words of wisdom regarding the accomplishments and events of these Presidencies. The product includes a note-taking sheet for after reading and also a set of term cards that can be used for flash cards or a heads-up game. Finally, to check for learning, two quizzes are supplied.
Objectives: To review the major accomplishments and events of the fifth through eighth US Presidents.
Procedures: Assign parts and read the play. Then, either take notes or supply students with the notes sheet.
Materials: Projector and copies of notes, if needed, and heads up cards. Also, blindfolds may help.
Make copies of the Heads-up cards for student groups. Allow students to work in groups to practice the terms. They do this by either using the cards as flash cards with one student using notes as a key, or they can stack the cards face down and play the heads-up game. One student draws a card and holds it against his or her forehead. The student does not look at the term at all. Other students give clues to the term to help the student guess the card term. Students may or may not use their notes to help them. It may be necessary to use a blindfold to keep students from seeing the terms.
Quiz: Two short quizzes are included to check for understanding. One is a bit harder than the other.
