Imagine telling your students, "You are a veterinarian for the day!"
Writing from this perspective will help them understand measurement tools and units of measurement while using specific content-area vocabulary words.
My writing prompts lend themselves to writing workshop, or you could work them into your science/social studies block. To challenge your higher-level thinkers, you could also list extra words that you want them to include in their stories (i.e. spelling words or other content-area vocabulary words).
1. Prompt - 3 per page. Print as many copies as needed and handout to students.
2. Exemplar - Go over exemplar with students. Point out underlined vocabulary words.
3. Stationery - Students can publish their work on this monkey-themed writing paper.
4. Standards - I listed five Common Core ELA Standards that directly align with this writing activity, but you could certainly incorporate additional standards. I teach in Tennessee, so I also listed the appropriate Tennessee State Science standard.
