My students love Eric Carle's story, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"
, so I wanted to design some caterpillar-themed activities that would help practice a variety of standards.
What made this especially fun was all of the super-cute clip art I've been collecting. The numbers actually match Carle's Very Hungry Caterpillar story!
This packet deals with number fun
and reinforces number recognition, number word
recognition, plus counting
, as well as skip counting
by 2s, 3s, 5s
, and 10s
Completed caterpillar craftivities
make a sweet spring bulletin board
I've included a poster
for the center of your display.
There are 4 head
options, plus 5 butterfly patterns
, should you want to attach one to the end of your caterpillar
There are number cards
, along with number word cards
, so children can play "Memory Match"
and "I Have; Who Has?"
There's a 3-page tip list
of ideas for the cards, including the "Kaboom"
game, along with an odd & even sorting mat
for more practice.
The matching math symbol cards ( +, -, =, <. >)
allow children to make equations
with the cards as well.
I've also included 2-on-a-page number posters
with matching groups/sets
of caterpillar cards
to use as anchor charts
There's a matching numbered caterpillar (0-10)
you can make as well, which makes a colorful display.
Finally, I've included a black and white, segmented caterpillar bookmark worksheet
. Choose a starting number for your students and have them fill in the circles with the rest of the numbers.
I'm Diane from Teach With Me, hoping your students enjoy counting with a caterpillar.
