Pg. 3-8 High Frequency Word Practice – “look” “out” draw a picture to show what the word means, use it in a sentence, write it five times – roll the dice each time to see what color to use to write the word
Pg. 9-12 Volcano “V” – cut out the volcano, color it, glue it onto the “volcano” page gluing only the bottom and sides to form a pocket – copy off the lava picture strips onto yellow or orange copy paper – put the lava strips with the pictures that start with the “v” sound into the volcano pocket – vegetables, vulture, vacuum, vase, vest, violin
Pg. 13-16 Zebra “Z” – copy the zebra onto white construction paper, cut out, color the stripes black, add eyes, ears, and yarn – glue the pictures that start with the “Z” sound onto the back of the zebra – zero, zucchini, zipper, zoo
Pg. 17-24 My “S” Words! – cut out and laminate the “S” snakes, glue them onto popsicle sticks, laminate the word cards, have the students put the “S” in front of the word to make a new word – have the students put the “S” behind the word to make a new word – record the words in the “S” book – copy the pages A and B of the “S” book back to back
Pg. 25 Subject –Verb Agreement! – color the actions that George can do red – color the actions that George and the man can do yellow
Pg. 26 Story Structure / The Setting – color each setting behind George – ski slope, kitchen, forest
Pg. 27 Characters! – color a picture of the characters – George and the man in the big hat
Pg. 28-31 Story Structure / The Plot Pocket! - make a pocket by folding the plot pocket in half and gluing the sides – cut out the pictures and put the story in order as you tell a friend about it – keep your pictures in the plot pocket
Pg. 32-38 I Can Do It! - write about something that you can do well, copy patterns on the appropriate construction paper colors, cut out and assemble – see illustration
Pg. 39-55 Meatballs! - a High Frequency Word game – put the meatballs face down in a pile, take turns reading the words and putting them on top of your spaghetti, watch out for the chef – he’ll make you put all your meatballs back into the pile
