This is a set of 22 pages of compound word cards. Each card has a compound word, a picture of that word, and a word to leave out. For example: "say Watermelon but don't say melon." They have a primary color, polkadot theme.
Cut each page into four separate cards. for a total of 88 "You Don't Say" cards.
Purpose: phonemic awareness; listening skills; compound words; building skills toward phoneme segmentation.
Hole punch the cards, put them on a ring and hang them by your classroom door for a quick whole group transitional activity in those 5 minutes before lunch.
Use them with small groups, or individual students who are having trouble with phonemic awareness. Especially those who struggle with phoneme segmentation.
Give to classroom volunteers as an easy phonemic awareness activity for them to use when working with students.
