This read aloud is as informational as it is entertaining! It focuses on delivering the facts in a way that tries to persuade the students that they wouldn't want to be in the Civil War at all!
They are asked to write down one detail they learned about the main idea on each page. Then, they have to give their opinion on that topic. I'm looking for a few words at 2nd grade; however, if you did this in 5th or 8th grades, you'd want more thorough explanations.
It is fun and funny to read this text aloud, and with the students engaged as responsible listeners, they get to add to their knowledge bank on The Civil War while practicing their oral reading strategies!
