Kill two birds with one "metaphorical" stone. This project uses several of the basic skills needed in any Middle Level English classroom. Students research, speak, and learn while participating in a project that breaks the shell of traditional Language Arts. Students, in this project, draw from a deck a Young-Adult novelist (i.e. J.K. Rowling, Louis Sachar, Veronica Roth, etc.). For the next week, students research all there is to know about this author. Their goal is to learn about their author enough that they can then portray them on the "Late Show." Their author must appear for an interview and answer a variety of questions. Students role-play as their author and answer everything in 1st person. The project proved valuable for many of the students who now found an author they "have to read" during the summer. Costuming was used in this project to encourage further creativity.
