This is an activity that guides students through the process of writing
a multi-paragraph essay about literature.
The information instructs students to take apart the prompt and determine what is expected in the essay (create a thesis statement).
The next step requires students to brainstorm the main points of the essay.
Following this task is the organization of information and integration and analysis of illustrative text.
The example uses information and quotes from "Young Goodman Brown," but the process, of course, could be used to compose an essay about anything.
I used this activity as a revision assignment after kids did poorly the first time around.
It can be edited to be used as an initial assignment.
