This lesson is aimed at educating your older student about the ins and outs of anxiety. While normalizing the emotion of anxiety, we discuss why people have anxiety and then what happens when you have an oversensitive system or a false alarm. The “fight, flight or freeze” response is introduced and several examples are given. We talk about the affects that anxiety has on the body and that it affects your thoughts and behavior too. We take a closer look at the brain and explain brain functions during anxious situations. The lesson is the perfect psychoeducation piece for your anxiety prevention treatment plan. Also included are 2 individual worksheets with answer keys and 2 interactive group lessons with animated images and sound bytes. PLEASE NOTE: Activities should be administered by a professional with mental health experience, preferably a clinician.
