Looking for a great way to wrap up your semester or year with your seniors? This project proves to them that they will be using the skills that they have learned in school in "the real world." Students will choose a career or college that they are interested in to research. They will need to organize important details, like what duties are required of them and how much they will be paid or be paying for school.
After they research their career or college, students will practice positive oral presentation skills by creating a presentation to highlight their research.
You may need to have mini-lessons about reliable research, what an effective PowerPoint or Prezi should look like, and how to be clear while giving a presentation. I broke the project over several days:
Day 1: Introduction of project, preliminary "poking around" research (minilesson on how to use Snag-a-Job)
Day 2: More focused research
Day 3: Create visual presentation (I provided a "do-not" example)
Day 4: Practice giving presentation (minilesson on eye contact, tone and volume of voice, body language, etc.)
Day 5: Give presentations
Obviously this is just what I did and it can be modified to fit your class needs. Informal checklist in place of rubric to allow for more individualized feedback and scoring.
