This Power Point presentation walks students through the steps of examining who they are as readers. Students will list things they typically read and the reasons why. Includes a free writing response, group comparisons, an exit slip, and a homework assignment. This is a great activity for getting to know your students as readers at the beginning of the year and a great way for them to become more metacognitive about what and why they read. Students can do this activity in their writer's notebook or on separate paper. Because the students are doing most of the work in this lesson the teacher is able to move through the room, looking over shoulders and asking questions.
