Description
The purpose of this activity is to build positive math identities in students. Students will write math autobiographies to have a chance to reflect on experiences with mathematics. This culturally relevant reflection helps students make connections between experiences and feelings to have meaningful conversations 1:1 with teacher, small group, and/or whole class. Students will set goals and can use this as a starting point for their new positive experience in a math classroom.
Included:
- thorough directions for students
- two pages of guiding questions to prepare to write
- a scaffolded version with fill-ins for students who need extra support
This is a great activity to start/end the semester and I have had great transformational conversations with students that led to building positive math identities.
