Here is a great opportunity to teach the finer points of public speaking. Students will select the most mundane, everyday object they can think of, research it, then write and perform a speech on the subject! Not only will they learn how to engage an audience, but they will also see how to organize their thoughts into a cohesive speech. I must admit that hilarity is a possibility! That's okay. They will still learn an important skill, so necessary in an increasingly large number of careers. This handout has directions, a fill-in-the-blanks outline, and a clear rubric. This also works well for English language learners.
