To understand how the legal system in the United States deals with the problem of juvenile delinquency.
1-2 class periods
In this lesson, class members read about juvenile delinquency in America. The information is arranged into the following sections:
• Juvenile Delinquency
• Extent of Delinquency
• Causes of Delinquency
• Prevention of Delinquency
• Juvenile Courts
As they are reading, students need to complete the sentences by filling in missing words, names, and terms. One or more letters in each answer have been given as clues. You may want to give the kids the option of working individually or with one other person.
This lesson can also be turned into a contest or game. As a contest, individuals or pairs compete to see who can come up with the most correct answers by the end of the period. As a game, divide the class into two teams that will take turns trying to identify the correct answers as you read through the paragraphs with them.
Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to measure student progress. The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment.
