I like to use this video around Valentine's Day and it also introduces Community and Neighborhood Unit for us nicely. This is a story that can be read by the students before watching the video, or the teacher can read it as the students watch the movie. I usually project the story on the SmartBoard and we read it as a whole group. Next, we watch the movie and I read it again as they watch. Then I pass out this handout and I have the students read the story with a partner. I have them switch at the halfway mark, so both students get a chance to read.
The questions I ask them are in English and are to be answered in complete Spanish sentences. The questions are designed to purposefully revisit the key vocabulary and structures I want the students to become familiar with. Those key words and structures are:
to get angry
At the end of the story, and this is usually offered as extra credit because we run short on class time, I ask the students about what type of business they might be interested in starting. I ask them to think about specific details of the business that seems interesting to them. Lastly, I ask them to come up with a business name and to give details of what products or services are offered by the business. In this part I ask them to provide the details of the products or services in English and Spanish.
