Yuck! is a really easy way to review student math fact knowledge, and the kids don’t even realize that it’s a review! There are many different ways that this game can be played, so feel free to develop your own version of game play if you don’t like mine. ☺
Once you have printed off this set of cards (I would use cardstock), laminate them to make them last longer. Then cut them apart and you’re ready to play!
This game is best done with a small group of students – no more than 6 works well. Place all of the cards upside down in the center of the group and spread the cards out a little so they are no longer in a stack. Choose a student to start. That student picks one card from the middle.
Math Fact Card: If the student can successfully solve the math fact, he/she can keep the card; if not, the card is placed back in the middle.
Yuck! Card: If the student draws a card with the gross monster on it, he/she must put all of his/her cards back into the middle.
Only one card is drawn per student per turn. Then the next student takes his/her turn, and so on and so on and so on.
The game ends whenever you decide to end in, or when all of the math fact cards have been drawn, but I never let them play long enough to get to that point.
*I included subtraction facts for 0 – 10. I would suggest one or two sets at a time until students master them before adding more.*
