Product Description
ZAP! is a fun and engaging way to have students practice any kind of skill from adding and subtracting to identifying fact and opinion statements. This ZAP! game provides students with practice in recognizing whether a group of words is a dependent clause or an independent clause. ZAP! is basically a print and go activity that requires minimal preparation yet yields great results.

Directions for Assembly and Play

Materials:
Medium to large empty Pringle’s container (or something similar) with the lid
Pages 1, 3-10 from this packet, laminated for durability or printed on cardstock

Assembly:
*Affix page 1 to the container, trimming as necessary to fit. You may want to cover the container with construction or contact paper completely before affixing the label. If you are like me and have many ZAP games, you may want to designate a container or two as simply a ZAP container and switch the playing strips in and out as needed, storing the strips in plastic zipper bags or envelopes.
*Cut apart the activity strips on pp. 3-9 and place them inside the container.
*Store the answer key inside the container as well.

To Play:
*Divide your class into several teams depending on the number of students.
*Determine how long you will play or how many rounds you will complete.
*Have a student draw a strip from the container without looking inside.
*The team should read the words on the strip, then confer to determine the answer.
*If the team answers correctly, it keeps the strip. If it answers incorrectly the strip is returned to the container.
*Teams take turns drawing/collecting the strips. However, there is a twist. If a team draws a ZAP! card, it must return ALL of its strips to the container.
*The winner is the team that collects the most strips. You may want to award them with a simple prize such as a piece of candy, bonus points on an upcoming quiz/test, 5 minutes of free time, etc.

This set of 28 ZAP! Cards (26 playing strips and two ZAP cards) could also be used as regular task cards (minus the ZAP! Cards). The QR codes make them self-checking. Place them in a literacy center or play a round of SCOOT or SCATTER.
