Description

Common Core State Standards for Mathematics: 8.EE.1
This lesson can be used with any middle school math course as well as the entry level high school course or Math I.

This is a very detailed video lesson. Initially, there is a review of some basic exponent problems that require students to use the basic exponent rules of multiplication, division, and power of a power. Students then begin a deep investigation into the Zero Exponent rule and why it results in an answer of 1. Students also explore charts to help them understand the effect of negative exponents on an expression.
A guided notes sheet for students to complete as they watch the video is included.
