I use this activity as an introduction to cognition in my AP Psychology class.
Students are placed into the role of a person during the zombie apocalypse and are given fifteen items in which they must rank their order of importance in terms of survival. The students then compare the ranks with the correct answers to determine how fit they are to survive the apocalypse.
We debrief by discussing the strategies they used for solving the problem, and this then leads into human cognition and problem solving techniques. Kids find it fun and it works well as an opener for class.
