Teach your kids how to spell the fun way this Halloween, with our Zombie Hangman game.

Instructions

The game works similarly to hangman with parts of a zombie appearing with each wrong letter guess. Choose a word and count out how many letters are needed to spell it. Click the red dots beneath the blanks to remove unnecessary blank spaces. If you accidentally remove too many, don’t worry, just re-click the red dot and the blank will reappear.

Have students guess letters to spell the word. Click the letter that has been guessed and it will disappear to avoid anyone re-guessing the same letters. When a guess is wrong, go to the number icons at the top of the screen to begin adding zombie parts. They must be clicked in order from left to right. When a guess is correct, use a smart board marker to write the letter in the appropriate blank space

Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
Associate the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.
Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
