The Zones of Regulation is a curriculum geared toward helping students gain skills to help regulate their emotions and actions, which in turn leads to increased control and problem solving abilities. Using a cognitive behavior approach, the curriculum’s learning activities are designed to help students recognize when they are in a certain “zone” depending on the emotions they are experiencing. Each zone is represented by a difference color. In the activities, students also learn how to use strategies/tools/coping skills to stay in the green zone or move from one zone back to the green zone. Students explore calming techniques, cognitive strategies, and sensory supports so they will have a toolbox of methods to use to move between zones.
Part of using the Zones of Regulation curriculum is being able to identify what emotions and behaviors are in each zone. This activity focuses on the emotions and behaviors that a student might experience in the red zone.
