Overview: This project would be perfect for zoo field trips or after animal research projects.
Animal Feature Cards: Use these animal feature cards to introduce the project. Copy each page on a different color and use them in rotations. Students can match them and when they’re finished, they can play memory with them.
Zoo trip: Students will observe, ask questions, and collect information and pictures about two different animals from the zoo that live in different habitats. When they return to school, they will combine their animals to complete the organism project.
Create an Organism Packet: Keep student’s research and ideas organized. Students will show their understanding of animal features and their uses, life cycles, and habitats with this project.
Project Rubric: Easy grading rubric for this Create an Organism Project
Craft and application: After the organism project is complete, students will make their own pillow pet prototype based on their newly invented animal. I use butcher paper and have the kids stuff it. They must also create their own magazine advertisement for their pillow pet, a catchy jingle, and a radio commercial to advertise their animal.
