This assignment is great for keeping kids accountable on field trips to the zoo. Give a copy of this sheet to each student on the field trip and have them determine if they think the habitat provided by the zoo for each animal is similar to their natural habitat. Obviously things like climate shouldn't necessarily be a factor, as zoos are in all different climate zones.
I had my (9th grade) students evaluate the habitats and write an essay about how they could improve two or three of the habitats to make them more like the animals' natural habitats. But it would also work with a class discussion about geography or with a discussion and lesson about climate change or the adaptability of animals.
