The activities include a story with realistic illustrations that engages students with autism and developmental delays from the beginning to the end. Mary has a little lamb, of course. But who else follows Mary? Your students will meet zoo animals and learn descriptors related to the animals. Activities increase their use/understanding of core words (i.e. she, had, not, good, now) and positional words (i.e. in, on, under), They practice in answering simple “who” and “where” questions. A hands-on activity with animal masks and story retell sheets support story comprehension. The snack mats are the perfect way to keep the communication going during snack time and at home. A parent letter explains how to use the snack mat.
The detailed lesson plan provides options for whole-group and small-group activities, as well as individual activities.
The ActivInspire flipchart, Mary Had a Little Zoo, is sold individually and is included in this thematic unit.
